Everything you need to know about using Masjidly. Find answers to common questions, learn how features work, and get the most out of the platform.
Getting Started
Masjidly is a free, community-driven platform that helps Muslims discover nearby masjids, access accurate salah times, and stay updated with jamat schedules and announcements. It is built for the community, by the community, and will always remain free to use with no ads or premium tiers.
You can sign up using your phone number with a one-time verification PIN, or sign in with your Google account. After signing up, you will set a display name. Your account lets you follow masjid communities, save addresses, and personalise your salah calculation preferences.
Allow location access so Masjidly can show nearby masjids and calculate salah times for your area. Head to the Find Masjid tab to discover communities around you. Follow your local masjid to see its jamat timings and announcements. Check the Salah tab for prayer times at your location.
Masjidly has four main tabs at the bottom of the screen. Communities shows the masjids you follow with the next jamat time for each. Find Masjid lets you search and discover nearby masjids. Salah displays your daily prayer times. Settings lets you manage your profile, location, notifications, and calculation preferences.
Finding Masjids
Search results are based on your current location and sorted by distance, nearest first. You can search by masjid name or by area. Results show verified communities so you can trust the information you see.
At the top of the Find Masjid page, you will see quick filter chips to narrow your search. "All" shows every community. "Nearby" limits results to within 5 km. "Has Timings" shows communities with jamat schedules. "Masjid" filters for masjids only. "Musalla" filters for prayer spaces. "Needs Admin" shows communities that need someone to manage them.
Masjidly lists two types of communities. A Masjid is a permanent place of worship where daily prayers and Friday congregations are held. A Musalla is a smaller or temporary prayer space, sometimes called a praying area, often found in offices, malls, or community halls.
Tap any community to see its full details. The community page shows jamat timings for all prayers, announcements from the admin, the full address with a map, listed facilities such as wudhu area and iftar arrangements, and tags for fiqh orientation and gender access.
Communities
Tap the Follow button on any community page to start following it. Once you follow a community, it appears on your Communities tab where you can quickly see its next jamat time and latest announcements.
The Communities tab shows all the masjids you follow. Each card displays the masjid name, location, and the next upcoming jamat time. This is your home screen for quick access to the masjids you regularly pray at.
Communities can list their available facilities so you know what to expect. These include Wudhu Area, Sehri Arrangements, Iftar Arrangements, Taraweeh for Sisters, and Hostel for Bachelors. Facilities are managed by the community admin.
You can unfollow any community from the community details page. Once you unfollow, it will no longer appear on your Communities tab and you will stop receiving its announcements. You can follow it again at any time.
Community Administration
If you regularly pray at a masjid, you can apply to become its admin. During the application, you verify your proximity to the masjid using your device location or a saved address. Once approved, you can manage the community's information.
Admins can update jamat timings, create and manage announcements, edit community details like name and type, update the address and map location, change the community image, manage facilities, and set fiqh orientation and gender access tags.
As an admin, your role is to keep jamat timings accurate and up to date, post relevant announcements, and ensure all community information is truthful. This is a form of sadaqah jariyah, as every person who benefits from accurate information you maintain earns you ongoing reward, inshaAllah.
If your masjid is not listed, you can add it. Select the location on the map, fill in the name and type (Masjid or Musalla), and submit. Once verified, it becomes visible to other users in search results.
Jamat Timings
Jamat timings on Masjidly are maintained by community admins who pray at that masjid. This means the timings reflect what is actually happening at the masjid, not data pulled from outdated sources.
Admins can set jamat times for Fajr, Zuhr, Asar, and Isha directly. For Maghrib, a buffer in minutes is set which is added to the calculated sunset time, since Maghrib changes daily. Multiple jamat times can be added for a single prayer if the masjid has more than one congregation. Friday and Eid timings can be set separately.
Maghrib time changes every day based on sunset. The admin sets a buffer, for example 5 or 10 minutes, which is added after the Maghrib adhan time to determine when the jamat begins. This way, the Maghrib jamat time adjusts automatically throughout the year.
On the Communities tab, each masjid you follow shows the next upcoming jamat time. This is calculated from all the jamat times set by the admin, including the daily Maghrib calculation. After the last Isha jamat, it shows tomorrow's Fajr time.
Salah Times
Masjidly calculates prayer times using established astronomical methods based on your location. The same internationally recognised standards used by major Islamic organisations are applied. For the most accurate times, make sure your location is set correctly.
Masjidly supports over 20 recognised calculation methods from Islamic organisations around the world, including University of Islamic Sciences Karachi, ISNA, Muslim World League, Umm Al-Qura University Makkah, and many regional standards. The default method is automatically selected based on your country.
This setting affects the Asar prayer time. The Hanafi school calculates Asar when an object's shadow is twice its length. The Shafi, Maliki, and Hanbali schools calculate it when the shadow equals the object's length, resulting in an earlier Asar time. The default is set based on your country.
The Salah page shows the Hijri (Islamic) date alongside the Gregorian date. If the displayed Hijri date does not match your local moon sighting, you can adjust it by up to 2 days forward or backward from the calculation settings.
All salah calculation settings are accessible from the settings icon on the Salah page. Your preferences include calculation method, school of thought, midnight mode, and Hijri day adjustment. Changes apply immediately.
Location and Addresses
Masjidly uses your device location to show nearby masjids and calculate accurate salah times. When you first open the app, it will ask for location permission. If you prefer not to share your location, you can manually set it by saving an address.
For the best experience, allow location access when prompted by your browser. If you previously blocked it, you can re-enable it from your browser settings. On Chrome, click the lock icon in the address bar and set Location to Allow. The Settings page has a Location Access toggle that shows your current permission status.
You can save up to 22 addresses with custom labels like Home, Work, or Masjid. Saved addresses let you quickly switch your location without relying on GPS. To add an address, go to Settings, then Location, then Manage Addresses, and search for the location on the map.
Your location determines which masjids appear in Find Masjid and how they are sorted by distance. It also determines your salah times. Changing your location, whether through GPS or by switching to a saved address, updates both search results and prayer times immediately.
Announcements
Announcements are community updates posted by the admin of a masjid. They can include schedule changes, upcoming events, Ramadan arrangements, or any other important update. All followers of a community can view its announcements.
Admins can pin important announcements so they stay at the top of the list. Announcements can also be set to expire automatically after 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, or 1 month. Once expired, the announcement is removed automatically.
If you see an announcement with inappropriate content, misleading information, or spam, you can report it. Tap the report option and select a reason. The Masjidly team reviews all reports and takes action to maintain the quality of community content.
Account and Settings
Tap your name or avatar at the top of the Settings page to edit your profile. You can change your display name (up to 50 characters) and update your profile picture. If you signed up with Google, your Google profile picture is used by default but can be changed anytime.
You can link your Google account for easy sign-in. Your phone number and email are shown in the Connected Accounts section of Settings. You can add or update these details at any time.
Enable push notifications to receive alerts for upcoming jamat times from the communities you follow. This requires browser notification permission. If notifications are blocked, the toggle in Settings will show "Blocked" and you will need to enable them through your browser settings. You can turn notifications on or off at any time.
Reporting and Safety
If you find a community with incorrect timings, a wrong address, inappropriate content, or if the masjid does not exist, you can report it. Select a reason and include a brief description if needed. The Masjidly team reviews all reports.
Masjidly is built on trust and community participation. Admins keep information accurate, and members help by reporting issues. Every report is reviewed, and we work to resolve problems quickly to keep the platform reliable for everyone.
Notifications
When you enable notifications, your browser will ask for permission. Once granted, you will receive alerts for upcoming jamat times at the communities you follow, helping you stay on schedule for congregational prayers.
You can enable or disable notifications from the Settings page under the Notifications section. The toggle shows your current permission status. If notifications are blocked at the browser level, you will need to change this in your browser settings.
If you are not receiving notifications, check that your browser has notification permission enabled for Masjidly. On mobile, also check your device notification settings. If the toggle shows "Blocked", follow the on-screen instructions to re-enable it in your browser.
